How a teacher made even greater impact:
the Varsity story
Our founder and CEO, Patrick Ciccarelli, originally created Varsity to develop technology solutions to help schools better serve their students. Early success led Patrick to broaden Varsity's mission, applying his unique approach to nonprofits as well as schools. Today, this passion for helping others help the world is still at the heart of each of our client interactions.
Patrick realized his desire to make a difference in 1994, when he began teaching with the San Francisco Unified School District. During his three years there, he served as a computer resource teacher, in addition to helping design and install networks in underfunded schools throughout the Bay Area.
In 1997, Patrick founded and ran one of the first Cisco Networking Academy locations. A newly-formed program within Cisco Systems, Inc., the Networking Academy prepared students for careers in the IT industry. Patrick’s academy grew to be one of the largest regional academies at the time, with more than 20 participating schools spanning five counties. After running this program from 1997 to 1999, Patrick created Varsity.
